Painting on canvas, decorations, plywood, or buildings - The ALTAX team experience

The word painting, in general, refers to an artistic field that operates with the help of colors and brushes, generating original paintings and artworks. But at ALTAX, the projects are oriented towards certain areas - large paintings on canvas, on plywood, on buildings, or an already built decor. So, there are a multitude of forms of aesthetic expression that can be used in different stylistic directions. Depending on the project developed by the set designer (or architect), a wide range of techniques can be used to create a special result.

ALTAX has extensive experience in this field, working, over time, with a lot of artists. Thus, the paintings made in our workshops can meet various requirements and demands, from a technical and aesthetic point of view. The first step is to carefully analyse the project, and then to decide on the desired technique - it can be made, for example, realistic in plan (on the sides or any other support), surreal in shape, or using an original patina. Applying a patina involves treating a surface with certain substances, in order to create a specific finish (vintage, matte, etc.). This technique is often used, especially in the performing arts, cinema and entertainment.

DAlso, the pictorial elements can make a special design – a mosaic, a painting, or a graphic ensemble. The scenographic concept is constantly taken into account and the artwork can be done on a static or on a mobile surface. The image can be made manually or mechanized (using a paint gun), but the manual technique is the most appreciated, because it is much more specific and gives unique results.

Mural paintings for the interior and exterior of buildings

Mural painting involves decorating a wall, a ceiling, or any other surface that is part of a building. It can be created with oil-based or water-based paints. There are several techniques that can be used - fresco, mezzo-fresco, and fresco-secco are just some of the most popular ways to make such an artwork, in a classical manner. But in contemporary projects, a mixture of methods can be used, depending on the scenographer's wishes.

Acrylic paint for objects and decorative elements - Techniques, dimensions, durability

In order to reach the desired result, the painting goes through several stages and processes. The chosen surface is an important factor, because it influences the approach. If necessary, a layer of primer can be applied in order to prepare the object or the structure for the next steps. After the primer has dried, the actual paint is applied and the amount and intensity of colours are being adjusted.

The materials can be various - watercolors, acrylics, diluent-based, and pigments can generate special visual effects. Therefore, it is essential that the requirements are clearly stated when ordering – knowing all the details, the process can be guided accordingly.

  • What size can the paintings be?

The dimensions of the paintings vary depending on the project’s requirements. They must be directly related to the space in which they will be installed and that’s why the set designer must develop, at first, the necessary sketches, in order to provide all the useful information.

  • How long does it take to make a painting?

The experts who will work on the project can estimate the total duration, taking into account the complexity of the requirements. Drying times and the chosen design are the most important factors that can influence the deadline. Therefore, the realization of the painting can take between 2 weeks and a month – it all depends on the stylistic concept.

  • How long do the paintings last?

In general, paintings successfully last a long time without degrading. But their lifespan may be shortened in some cases. To avoid this, the conditions of use, storage, and handling must be optimal in order to protect the product. If you want to prevent any damage, in the last stage of painting, a layer of protection can be applied – it has the role of preserving all the constituent elements.
